Pendekar (Senior Instructor) Dr. Hamid Slimi has been practicing Martial Arts since his childhood and has more than one black belt in different styles of Martial Arts (Korean, Japanese, and Indonesian/Malaysian). He is a certified senior Instructor with the equivalent of Sixth Dan degree black belt in Pencak Silat Al-Azhar (Pendekar) and Sixth Dan degree in Silat Jutsu system. He is the Canadian representative of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Alazhar Seni Bela Diri which was founded in 1970 by late Marhum Muhammad Sufiyono and Djauharul Abidin Bakir. He is also a Certified Coach Referee/judge (Jury wasit) for Al-Azhar SBD Silat competitions.
Dr. Slimi is also the current president of the Canada Pencak Silat Federation which is a member of the International Pencak Silat Federation known as Persilat and also the Secretary General of the Pencak Silat Federation of the Americas.
He is also a certified Kickboxing Coach, a certified Judge and a certified Referee by the World Association of Kickboxing organizations .
Dr. Slimi considers himself a student of Martial Arts. His journey of learning martial arts started with Japanese Judo during his childhood then he enrolled in the Korean Hybrid system of Hapkido and practiced it for many years. He competed successfully in many local and national tournaments and in Judo, Ju Jutsu and open Martial Arts. Thereafter, he enrolled in different Martial Arts such as Kung Fu, Muay Thai and Kickboxing.
He also practiced Japanese Iaido/Iaijutsu, Ju Jitsu, and Aikido. His interest in Silat started years ago during his university studies in the late eighties as it was introduced to him by Southeast Asian Students from Malaysia and Indonesia. He joined Koentjoro Bela Diri (A Hybrid system made of Tae Kwon Do, Kempo Karate & Silat Harimau) and earned another black belt in this system with a special focus on Silat techniques and Jurus. His decision to focus on learning and teaching Silat only came after he visited many times Malaysia and Indonesia and then stayed in Indonesia for a while. He believes Silat is a complete system and can incorporate all the above-mentioned styles of Martial Arts in addition to its values and interesting historical development. After passing all the necessary exams and mastering all the fundamentals of Al-Azhar system and becoming a member of the Renowned Indonesian Pencak Silat Alazhar Seni Bela Diri, he was given in 2016 the consent and support to open an affiliated Pencak Silat school in Canada and other parts of the world.
Sensei Guru Didien Koentjoro is a Seventh Dan Black Belt Grand Master of Koentjoro Martial Arts which is a hybrid system made of Tae Kwon Do, Kempo & Silat Harimau. He also runs his Koentjoro Bela Diri Martia Arts School in Canada and Indonesia. Guru Didien is a native of Indonesia and was fortunate to grow up practicing different styles of Martial Arts including Pencak Silat Harimau from Sumatra. After many years of learning and practicing Tae Kwon Do, he developed his own system using different techniques from both Silat and Tae Kwon Do in addition to other techniques from Karate and Kempo. Guru Didien Koentjoro is the Master coach of Koentjoro Bela Diri Martial Arts which is a member of Canada Pencak Silat Federation and he is a board member in this federation.
Sensei Guru Koentjoro is the Secretary General of the Canada Pencak Silat Federation and the Certified International Referee/judge (Jury wasit) for Silat competitions.
Sensei Guru Khan is a Third Dan Black belt in Jujutsu, Fourth Dan Black Belt in Aikido and Fourth Dan Black Belt in Silat Jutsu. He has been practicing these styles since his early childhood. He also practices and teaches Wing Chun Kung Fu, Jeet Kune Do and Pencak Silat techniques. Sensei Guru Khan is very passionate about martial arts and teaches in different clubs around the GTA. His ability to adjust to different systems of fighting styles is phenomenal and it earned him a great respect and admiration by many martial artists who know him and practice with him. Guru Khan is the lead coach of the Silat Jutsu Academy of Martial Arts and a member of Canada Pencak Silat Federation.
